Great burn jamescooley1.

Contributing a burn from one of my three (okay, only two still alive) 1640’s.

MID: YUDEN000-T03 (Verbatim branded)
Type: DVD+R 16x rated (16x in firmware)
Burned with: CD Speed 4.7.7.15, Create disc, ISO image
Burned at: 12x
Burn time: 5’ 49’’
Write Strategy: default
Pre-burn calibration: 11’’
Drive/Firmware: DW1640_BSLB
Settings: SolidBurn =off, WOPC =off.
Note; this drive has been operating as reader in my HTPC for the last year or so.
Sidenote: ehh… added a eec1 (actually 1.15, 2.1k less samples) Lite-On scan for comparision.

Q at all; should I upgrade to latest firmware for this media type?

Q at all; should I upgrade to latest firmware for this media type?
For T03, I would try either of three things:

 1. A strat swap of T03@T02 with a 12x burn.

 2. An upgrade to BSRB, which may have a better built-in strategy.

 3. Turn SolidBurn ON.

#2068
…2. An upgrade to BSRB, which may have a better built-in strategy…
Thanks negritude.
This drive is in my HTPC, don’t think upgrading firmware will do any harm.

I’ll post a burn on BSRB to compare with my BSLB burn above.

BTW, SolidBurn needs some learning, AFAIK. Don’t think I’ll spend that much time for this on current rig.
(Using Pio’s and Summy’s for burning nowdays…)

Newer firmware is not always necessarily “better”.
BSLB is still the best, even on latests discs… AFAIKS on TY-003 anyway.

MID: YUDEN000-T03 (Verbatim branded)
Type: DVD+R 16x rated (16x in firmware)
Burned with: CD Speed 4.7.7.15, Create disc, ISO image
Burned at: 12x
Burn time: 5’ 59’’
Write Strategy: default
Pre-burn calibration: 13’’ (observed)
Drive/Firmware: DW1640_BSLB
Settings: SolidBurn =off, WOPC =off.
Disc scanned at: 1EEC.
Note; this drive has been operating as reader in my HTPC for the last year or so.
Note2, won’t add a Litey scan because already the first half of this is worse then in my post above.

The disc is an original 1x media and can be supported at 2x write speed with many Drives.

This burner is simply the best ever, isn’t it ? 5 years after the BenQ 1640, is there any burner which come close in terms of DVD+R quality (score >= 98% for MCC04) ???

#2080

I know, it is the best burner ever……but please suggest anything that comes close at least
