Benq dw1640 end of disc error

Hi to all

My benq dw1640 had been fine all along till some months back I was getting some “end of disc” errors so I upgraded from nero 6 to 7 and it was fine for awhile and before the errors came again recently so I upgraded to nero 8 but the problem persists. and now there seems to be some clicking sounds, like its having difficulty writing

I did alternate between a few mediums but same results. My NERO log sometimes did show “key_medium_error” but others times it was “illegal_key_request” or serial error, something along that line.

When I tried using another LG unit on my system, I could burn perfectly with my discs. so I am attributing the possible problem to my benq unit.

my newest log as shown… note even though it says key_medium_error but other times it could be serial error or key error. appreciate any suggestions that I might try before spending money on a new unit. thanks

What media are you using? Brand & MID. MID can be retrieved using CD-DVD Speed [included with Nero as a tool].

Example: Memorex 16x DVD+R, CMC MAG M01 [MID highlighted below].

8x DVD-R TYG02. this is silver top, I do not see any brands, but it is a mass order from accaproducts.com

TDK 8x DVD-R, TTG02

tried both media and same errors. and TAIYO YUDEN shouldnt be some lousy media I guess. and I have been getting smooth burns for quite a few pieces before all these errors

used to have (SONY 8x DVD+R, YUDEN000 T02) and not much problems too.

yup thats all for my dvd media. cd-r wise I am also having same errors but I am using a brand (maxell) for years and no problems till all these errors started happening

appreciate any ideas thanks

The problem has nothing to do with Nero, so it doesn’t matter which version you use.
Try re-flashing your firmware, and if you are using QSuite, clean the learned media, de-install and re-install the app.
Then burn the TYG02 at 8x with the stock writing strategy.
See here.

hi articulate thanks for the reply

I am not sure if QSuite is being used. I do have it installed but I never open the program whenever I burn, so would that mean my benq drive is using QSuite?

I have been flashing it from BSRB to BSLB a couple of times. But I would have to uninstall QSuite first to totally remove any learned media?

And what is burning with stock writing strategy? Hope to get a clearer picture of the whole thing before I test my unit again.

Thanks.

I just got 200 TYG02’s and I’m having the same problem. It used to be that if I got 8X TY’s I could burn at 8X without any problems, In fact I could overspeed to 12X If I wanted to and still get good Burns. The same goes for 16X (TYG03’s)
16X NO PROBLEM! But not with the latest batch of 8X. If I want a good burn I have to burn at 4X and I just read where someone bought some 16X watershield TY’s and has to burn at 12X for a good burn as well as many others having problems with TYG02’s I’ve Been using TY’s and benQ burners (2-1620’s + 2-1640’s) for 3 or 4 years now with great success and I have to say It really sucks when a good product goes bad. Get a grip TY nobody loves you when your down!
P.S. they are real TY’s so we don’t need to go there!

I would clean learned media first, set all parameters to default, then de-install QSuite. Restart PC and then re-flash the drive to an earlier firmware (before BSLB), and finally back to BSLB, or your firmware of choice, restarting between each flash.
Then try burning a TYG02 at 8x and see afterwards w/ CD-DVD Speed scanning if the results are better.
Stock writing strategy just means letting the drive burn the TYG02 (or any “known” media) with the factory-set parameters, without changing anything w/ any external program (like QSuite).

I went through the same thing . . . read this, maybe it’ll help . . . .

OK Articulate I guess I’ll try the uninstall/reinstall of Qsuite Right Now I’m using BSOB + BSRB in my 1640’s which I’d like to try keeping but I think I’ll Re-flash each drive to the others firmware Just to make sure I’m getting a fresh start. Anyway thanks for the come back. Don’t have time right now but when I do I’ll post my result’s. Don’t want to leave my criticism of TY’s unanswered if it wasn’t justified and I do if it is! But I hope I was wrong I really liked TY’s up until now!

ok i will test out what you said.

i noticed that in QSuite, under solidburn, the setting for supported disc is non-activated by default. should i activate it? or leave it as that?
i noticed that in QSuite, under solidburn, the setting for supported disc is non-activated by default. should i activate it? or leave it as that?
Leave the default settings.

nope its not working. I am still having those errors. it is so irritating when i only bought the drive for less than 2 yrs and its already so much problems
I went through the same thing . . . read this, maybe it’ll help . . . .
OK here’s what I did:Ran EEPROM clean tool for both 1640’s (Twice), deleted Qsuite, Ran Registry mechanic + CCleaner, Went into safe mode and ran CCleaner again, then still in safe mode flashed 1st 1640 to its original firmware (which in my case is BSHB) Restarted then restart again back into safe mode and repeated for 2nd 1640. then back into safe mode to flash 1st drive back to BSOB. Then again for 2nd drive to BSRB. Each time for each drive restarting back to normal desktop then restarting into safe mode. then I re installed Qsuite. Same crappy scans with TYG02’s. “8X not recommended.” Just like before. I can burn at 8X if I don’t Mind the occasional glitch however if I want a perfect burn I have to burn at 4X. Like I said before I used to be able to overspeed TYG02’s to 12X and get far better burns than I now get at 8X. My conclusion: Bad batch of TY’s. I’m still going to give them another shot because, Like I said before I had great success with TY’s for years! Besides anybody can screw up on occasion. But if they don’t improve with the next batch I’m going to have to find other Media anyway thanks articulate it was worth a shot! and Viper12 its the Media (TY’s) not the drives. And as an after thought I think next order will be for some TY+R’s which Ill then book type to -R. A little more expensive but I bet it’ll work better still.
