Using the B7M9 firmware I cannot burn at 12x with Nero, Alcohol or DVD Decrypter. All of them just sit on the Lead In and the light on the drive just BLinks Red like it’s writing but it’s not doing anything. I have to shut my system down to get the disk out (ouch)

But they do burn very well at 8x. I know this is not a full burn but I forgot to save the other scans but they were all good also.

Just wondering if possibly it is the firmware?

Just wondering if possibly it is the firmware?

Probably not… Burning 4X media @ 12X and expecting “Super Scans” is somewhat of a stretch don’t ya think?

I wouldn’t call it a stretch

I know some have done it and it shows 12x as an option. Just wondering if anyone else has experience or trouble with these.

I changed back to B7L9 firmware and I was able to burn at 12x this but the time was 9:37.

Before it wouldn’t burn at all with the new firmware.

I am happy to burn these at 8x as they seem to burn very well and I do have another 100 on the way to play with

Nice scan… I have no issues with TY01’s as they represent over half of my current library. I also have no issue with the 1620 as it is by far the best drive I’ve ever tested, and works with TY02’s better than any drive available today.

The point being that when you burn 3 times the certified speed, there are many variables that come into play.

If my intent is to burn @ 12X, I wouldn’t purchase 4X media!!!

Example: TY02 - 1620 - 12X

Nice scan of yours…
My TY02’s aren’t quite as good as your’s are.
I get a “hump” at the 2gb mark but they are very nice burns overall.
I had my TY01’s from before and was surprised that the 1620 offered to burn @ 12x.

I don’t want anyone to misunderstand my post. It was not a complaint of any kind I assure you.

I just wanted to see what everyone else can do with these.

I am very happy with 8x and the quality of the scan is good, that matters most to me.

I have more media coming to try Prodisk 8x and Benq 8x, these I do hope to get 12x out of.

I’m confused, can you burn TY01 at 8x or any speed with the M firmware?

My 1620 with B7M9 still let’s me do 12x on TY01.

I CAN burn at 8x no problem, scans are good.

Sorry if my posts are confusing

my MSI DR16-B, a Benq 1620 oem burns YUDEnT01 very well.
YUDENT01 4x dvd+r at 12x nicely!

data size 4466mb

I think there are 2 revision of YUDEN000T01, Rev 00 and 01… 00 probably only allow you to burn at 8x, 01 might give you up to 12x?

the inner ring code of my YUDENT01 is TC001004

The Samsung T01 that I have is revision 00 and the 1620 allows 12x.

I will check mine when I get home from work to see what they are.

I bet they are 01

Your first post in this thread shows them as 00.

Media code/Manufacturer ID YUDEN000T01
Media Product Revision Number 00h

lol DOH!

So then the question might be what is holding me back burning at 12x?

I have “2” 200gig SATA drives

I have my BenQ set as Master and a Liteon 166 set as slave.

Before I start messing with unpluggin my Liteon and trying a new cable
I will wait for my Prodisk 8x and benQ 8x DVD+R’s to get here and see what they burn at.
Then I should get an idea where I stand with those TY disks.

I will also check for updated VIA 4in1 drivers if that matters much I don’t know,
I’ve never heard of any problems with VIA but thats worth a shot.

IM me with your address I will send you as many as I can pack into a USPS box if you will post your results.

EagleClaw,
Again your first post shows that you have a 12x write descriptor.

Manufacturer Rated Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 12.0x 16620KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 8.0x 11080KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.4x 3324KBps

You just said you are using the VIA IDE drivers.
I would suggest you use the MS default drivers and see if that corrects your problems.

I will try that.

Thanks
