I started testing my Verbatim DL (2.4 speed MKM 001) DVD's today with Qscan (v. 2.1) before burning them. I've not been having the best of luck with them lately with either of my new drives, the Benq 1650 nor my Liteon 1635. I've never had a problem in the past with bad burns, and have probably done over 75 of them. A couple of weeks ago I found the Verbatim's on sale at Office Max and bought $100 worth. I opened a new package of 10 today and tested all of them with Qscan. I used 2.4 speed and first sampled at "normal". I retested them with "quick" mode and got about the same results. 40% of them failed the Qscan test.
Has anyone else tried this? Is there something wrong with the drive or the Qscan software? Obviously, I can't test the Liteon drive with this software as it is Benq only. This seems awfully high, or the Benq is awfully picky. I'm using the BCDC firmware that came on the drive. I'l love to hear from others on this issue.
