Benq 1640 and Pioneer 110 on same PC

Hi guys

I’ve just purchased a Sony 810A and crossflashed it to Benq 1640 BSMB RPC1 No Riplock , and still have my Pio 110 , I just dissconnected the 110 in order to play with the Benq .
I want now to use both , in reading and writing to make A/B comparisons , so my question is :
What is the best configuration for connection with these two drives ?
Master and slave and DMA settings ?

Thank you very much for this awesome forum . :flower:

#2

I think that there are no differences regarding master or slave. To avoid the annoying problem of qsuite, I suggest you to set benq as master and pioneer as slave.

DMA must be enabled always, because it’s absolutely necessary for dvd burnings.

#3

What annoying problem is that, Geno?

#4

If benq is not set as master, qsuite don’t see the burner automatically, and you must switch manually in the combobox. It’s only a cosmetic bug, annoying, but don’t have any consequence on performance

See pics as example

#5

So is that just a problem with the 1640? My 1650 is slave to my Litey 1635S, no problems with QSuite.

#6

What version do you have of Qsuite? Maybe is related to this. I have 2.0

#7

Aha, that could be it. I have v2.1.

@minaelromany

I too don’t think it would make a difference which is Master, which is Slave. Put your favourite as Master.

#8

Thank you very much guys for your replies .
I asked this because indeed Benq is my favourite now , so I want to connect it as a master , but yet I’ve heard that Pioneer drives like to be connected as masters

#9

My benq work correctly as slave connected with a liteon 1863 as master.

If you think that your pioneer can give problems as slave, then connect it as master. Benq will work anyway

#10

I’d put the BenQ as master probably…not sure about the Pioneers being masters thing - I’ve had my Pio 110D connected as both master and slave, didn’t really notice any difference. Try it with the BenQ as master, if you notice your Pio acting unusually, switch them.

#11

Hi
@ minaelromany & geno888. Pioneer actually recommend that their UDMA 4 drives be set/used as Master. This only seems to be really relevant if experiencing problems. BenQ on the other hand appear to assume that their drives will be used as slave drives. Hence the fact that recently BenQ drives come with jumper setting as Slave by default.
Personally I’d have the Pioneer as Master & the BenQ as Slave.
BTW Generally QSuite 2.1 is more compatable with most setups.
@ Arachne, ooh get you with the me & my BenQ. :stuck_out_tongue:

#12

Thanks for the info zebadee

I didn’t knew that the pio is a UDMA-4 drive

#13

:p:p:p

I knew the Pio was UDMA4, but I had no idea they were recommended to be set as Master. I’ve learned a lot in this thread

#14

Hi
Well there you go. Another snippet of info to place into your grey matter.
I believe that’s why the Pioneer can be fussy about cables & the Master/Slave thing.

#15

I set my benq 1640 as slave because the master is a liteon 1693, that is a UDMA-4 drive too :iagree:

#16

I’ve just connected them as Benq = Master and Pioneer = Slave .

What kind of problems the Pio may have for being Slave ?

#17

i am looking for these drives. which one is quieter and which one burns DVD-R better? thanks.

#18

Wrong idea!!!

The Pio should be master as recommended, and, because of it’s UDMA4 running mode!!

#19

Thank you all guys for your replies .

Chef

I did that and connected the Pio as a Master and Benq as Slave :

But , there is a problem , when I insert a blank media it gives me this :

Is this normal ?

It runs fine when I put written media though .

I tried burning a disc with the Pio and it failed , here is the log :
