Hello,is the Benq 1640 a good burner ? I owned a Lite-On SOHW 1693S and want a second one.
From what can be read around and from cdrinfo review it looks a pretty good burner! If i had to choice a new one, i'd definitely go with 1640
Take a look at these threads to have an opinion on this burnerhere, here, here, and [url=http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=141500]here[(url].

Compared to the LiteOn, the Benq 1640 is a much faster reader, and writes better on 16x +R media. CDR and CDRW writing is a toss up. It depends on what you want to do. In general, it's better to have 2 different drives so if one is weak on a task, the other will be stronger on it.
BTW, I'm basing my comments on the Plextor 740A version of the Benq drive.
it's one of the if not THE best burners out now
One of the best? - YESTHE bust burner out now? - I will have to disagree.
show me. i don't see another beating it quality wise
Hmm, the best only based on burn quality? There are many factors other than quality, thus there is no THE BEST, imo.
Anyway, show yours for TY02 and TYG02 @16x, and I will show mine.
Edit: add MCC004 and MCC03RG20 @16x in your search.
no you first. you started this you first
LOL, who said "the best" first? You can't defend your own words?
so what if i said if not THE best? got a problem? wanna fight?
i don't even have a 1640 yet. it's based on every review i've seen
lg 4163 is great too
I won't fight if you retreat.
i don't even have a 1640 yet. it's based on every review i've seenLet me give you a chance, find someone else scans.
"The best" is a very strong statement. You need to learn how to make a good valid statement (and comments) in this forum. You are a senior member and you should know by now.
lg 4163 is great tooNow youre talkin'.
@zeviaYou mentioned to find TY02 at 16x for example, no overburning, till yet!
no i won't retreat. i don't have to prove anything you can see the scans your damn self.
look at the review at cdrinfo.com and the thread floating around
4163 is the fastest dvd burner
1620/1640 have best quality and media support imo.
Hehe rapid fire. That's what I mean. It can't be claim as the best DVD burner, not yet. Still someone said that BenQ 1640 has the best media support. Not yet.
There are also some other features that BenQ 1640 doesnt have, one example which is important in my book is DVD+R overburning.
The my Plextor 740A is very strong at the tasks I mentioned: writing DVD+R and CDR/CDRW, and reading. It is weak on other tasks like DVD+RW rewriting, coastered a dual layer burn, and no scanning support unless I flash it to the Benq firmware. For a drive to be "the best" it needs to be a better all around performer. While the Plextor 740A has very good writing quality on some media, I think the LiteOn 1693S is a more balanced all around drive in general.
Right now, if i had to buy a new machine, i`m very impress with the Benq 1640...
@El_Mariachi_X:Dude, you're NUTS if you wanna throw down (scans) with zevia!! My goodness, have you seen his scans posted all over these parts? Lol. No contest. Zevia wins hands down. Zevia probably burns dvd's with one hand tied behind the back just for fun ... hehe.
My point exactly ... ie. they're all HIS scans!
well.. I need to give credits to people who work hard. In this BenQ forum, actually pinto2 and crossg are our King of Quality and Speed! in both DVD+R and DVD-R records.
DVD+R crossg: YUDEN00T02 in 5:17 mins, QS 94%DVD-R pinto2: MCC03RG20 in 5:32 mins, QS 98%
While in overall Optical CD/DVD burner: COdeKing with his BenQ 1640 is the fastest DL ripper in town, max 15.61x.
And zevia, only 5:15mins, QS 98%. I'm sure somebody will eventually beat my record.
Absolutely agree with you, i miss the overburning here, too! :iagree:
