BENQ 1620 still going strong...but no more DL?

PLEASE help.

My Benq 1620 still burns like a champ. I rarely burn DL. But recently I made 5 coasters in a row trying to burn a dual layer disk. :a

It always hangs at exactly 50%. The thing is I can hear little bumping and grinding noises as if trying to get to 51%. Could that be a broken second laser? I think I read something about that in the forums somewhere. Or perhaps there’s something else going on?

yup I used verbatim. yup I inserted the appropriate user-defined layer break 1913760 for xbox360 ISOs. Here’s the last log:

Either the media is a bad batch (could you try 1 with another drive?) or the burner now really has a problem related to the PUH/Laser …

#3

Yah I have a 2nd 1620 but that seems to have its own set of problems.

I used the last 5 DVDs from a spindle of 25…the previous 20 worked just fine.

I wonder if there’s a utility to test that 2nd laser. I’m sure the “test” feature on imgburn will not be of any help.

Does this mean DL burns will or should work? thx 4 help.

#5

Uh, the drive seem to have issues at a tricky part, layberbreak, or?!
