Can someone tell me how many and what kind of tests are available for CDs/DVDs (empty or written) and CD/DVD drives? Is there any guide? Thank you in advance!

There is a dedicated subforum here

Thank you for answering. Is there a thread answering exactly to my question or the answer to my question are the “Read first” threads of that subforum?

I mean what tests should I perform in order to decide which disc or drive is better?

The most used tests are the transfer rate (or TRT) and the quality test (commonly referred here as “scan”).

Bear in mind, however, that you need a reliable drive for scans, and at the moment only liteon burners are the reliable drives easy to find in the market.

Results from other drives aren’t reliable?

@ pushergr,

As previously suggested by Forum Member geno888 suggest visiting the Media Testing/Identifying Software Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f96/) and review the “Read First” postings in that Forum. These “Read First" posting are extremely informative and will provide ALL the information you will need on how to perform Disc Quality Scans, how to interpret the data, and detailed information on the software and hardware required. That is the purpose of these “Read First” postings. After reviewing these “Read First” postings then it would be appropriate to ask your specific questions.

Regards,
bjkg
