TL Stupid question… what is TL media? Is that triple layer? I wasn’t aware my drive (BDR-209DBK) supported that when I bought it.
Anyone have problems with the new firmware?

…which mention “BD-R TL” and “BD-RE TL” in the changelog for the BDR-209 firmware updates.

I can’t speak for people who have tried 1.20, but…

Yes, TL is triple layer. As far as I know, TL and QL (quad layer) discs are both BDXL. QL discs aren’t really all that available, but TL discs are available in some places, surely.

I don’t think the drive actually supports writing to BD-XL media. I’m betting that Pioneer made a mistake in copying & pasting the changes in the change log and in the list of supported media. I also don’t think anyone will test that out to see if the drive actually gained the ability to write to TL media, rare & expensive as it probably is.

#4

TL is BD-R/E Triple Layer media.

BDR 209 is not 209D.

#5

chef, I don’t think anyone is arguing about the 209D being something other than it is, only that Pioneer is listing TL media support on the 209D in the firmware update… which may not be true.

#6

True, the 209Dxx cannot write BD-R/E TL nor BD-R QL media.

From Pioneer itself:

BDR-209DBK
Write Support
BD BD-R, BD-R DL, BD-R LTH, BD-RE, BD-RE DL
DVD DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, DVD+RW, DVD-RW
CD CD-R, CD-RW

#7

And yet in the first post they are showing the firmware update as providing new support for TL discs. See the mystery?

I think chef is on the same page as us now.  He replies to so many threads so quickly, it’s easy to get lost in the finer details you may miss…
