BD-R blank media: Which manufacturer hides behind the Labels?
Nice. Do you fancy being our guinea pig for the SL ones as well? :clap:
These? http://www.amazon.com/DIGISTOR-Blu-ray-Recordable-Blank-Media/dp/B004DN7PBW/

They’re a little stiff for single layer discs. These have burned very nice for me and are a lot less per disc. I haven’t tried them since they’ve become available again in changed packaging. So I can’t say for certain they’re the identical discs as before. The MID is the same though.

#42

I just bought some of the “new” Melody BD-R discs with the different packaging, so I’ll see how they compare to the older ones from before.

#43

Hi katraine. I’ve recently bought some BD-25s sold under the label “PLEXDISC”. They’re fairly cheap by downunder standards and seem to burn ok.

The MID code is OTCBDR-002-000. Do you (or any of our other media experts) know or have any idea which company actually makes these?

Amethystum Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. per the BDA
Amethystum Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. per the BDA
Related to what we knew as OptoDisc, correct?
Related to what we knew as OptoDisc, correct?
They are most likely just an OEM manufacturer that the current owner of the Optodisc’s know-how/technology/trademark (Vinpower) hired to produce BD-R media.
Amethystum Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. is a daughter company/subsidiary of the Chinese optical media manufacturing machinery producer called Samlink Technology Ltd..
What’s really interesting is that they were able to sell at least one BD-R line to some mysterious USA company (Samlink BD-R LINE was put into prodution smoothly in LA,America).
Has anybody ever heard about any “Made in the U.S.A.” BD-Rs?

#47

Never. I can’t even imagine what brand (if any) they would be sold under.

My wild imagination says: That seems like it would have been specialized. Maybe they made discs exclusively for duplication (for use by the movie industry, perhaps)? I can’t think of any other industry that would even bother with a single BD-R production line…or if it would have been easier to do that than to distribute pressed BD media.

I’ve just ordered some of these plexdisc. A few google searches have confirmed the MID you posted. Got mine for $29 per 25 pack. If you find them cheaper let me know (providing they burn well of course).

Warning regarding Infomedia-branded BD-R (in the UK)

Infomedia-branded BD-R DL discs have recently appeared for sale on the web in the UK from various vendors, often at an extremely good price. But before you get your hopes up, it appears that they are Ritek.

http://www.optical-disc.co.uk/acatalog/BLU_RAY_50GB_Double_Layer_Discs.html

Worryingly, this supplier (who I suspect is the importer) now states that the SL discs are Ritek also.:sad:

http://www.optical-disc.co.uk/acatalog/BLU_RAY_25GB_Single_Layer_Discs.html

If the SL are now Ritek, then it would be a disaster. The Infomedia-branded BD-R on sale in the UK so far have been Infomedia MID discs of very high quality and at a fantastic price.

#55

I contacted that vendor and received this reply:

Yes these are now Ritek discs

Infomedia has now contracted out to Ritek to make their discs under
infomedia’s supervision

Hmm… The first statement contradicts the second.

It is notoriously hard to get a straightforward, accurate statement regarding the origin of optical discs. :iagree:

The second statement suggests Infomedia have outsourced production of their discs to Ritek. But I grew up with livestock and know bovine by-product when I see it. (On this occasion probably dispensed unwittingly.)

Best seek clarity.

The discs now use Ritek mid

Conclusion: They’re now Ritek discs (MID & manufactured by).:sad:

HI ALL !

I got a 10 piece spindle here from "Mediarange DL 50GB - full inkjet printable"
Imgburn tells me; VERBAT-IMf-000

I think the “f” stands for faulty. Because these discs were hell cheap. And it is giving me issues around the layerbreak (Samsung SE506CB )

My VerbatimF discs had occasional layer break error spikes also. They were Verbatim branded too. Have you done any scans or just experiencing playback issues?

#59

I wrote something about it here, hope it helps. It shows the imgburn logs and IBG plots of the faulty discs. Though Imgburn said they completed succesfully. The discs were destroyed out of frustration afterrwards so I cannot do a scan. Perhaps I will do another coaster on purpose. Using the same settings. And then do a ODC scan for the common good :stuck_out_tongue:
