How can I watch a Blu-ray on my lap top, I have a blu-ray player and an HDMI out on the computer. Is there any way to watch a BD on my laptop like this?

Welcome to the forum! :flower:

Go to the following page and download the Cyberlink Advisor:

This program will let you know whether your system is capable of playing Blu-Ray, and if not, what upgrades you may need.

You will definitely need some kind of playback software as well, such as PowerDVD.

Blu ray video requires what is called a “protected path”. You need a monitor that is HDCP compliant.

Since your laptop has an HDMI connector on it as an output, it may meet this requirement. But I’m not sure how you are going to connect an external, stand alone Blu Ray player if the laptop does not have an HDMI input port.

Unless I’m misreading your post and you have a blu ray drive in the laptop? If you have such a drive, you can run one of the Blu ray advisor programs to see if the laptop meets HDCP requirements. Here is one: http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/bd-support/enu/index.jsp

It is possible to hook up an external blu ray drive through usb and play on a computer if the monitor meets their specifications.

Edit: Too late

It has an HDMI but I really couldn’t tell you if it was just an output or an input as well.

I ran a scan and I don’t have software or a player, didn’t have the player hooked up, said the screen will support it though. I just need a way to use the screen as a stand alone monitor, in a sense, to watch a bd. How do I do this?

Sorry to break the bad news, but you basically don’t, at least not without something like this (and that one requires component video in)…
