Bad results using NEC 2500

I have a btc 1008 and now a nec 2500a. I primarily use Ridata g04 media, but also have tried Verbatim DataLifePlus (CMC). Both media gave me same results in my btc drive…~400-500 PI errors and few PO errors. Since I’ve been burning with the nec drive though, those numbers are MUCH higher. I’ve tried many firmwares (the latest 1.07 v2 beta5, 1.07, and a few others) and all remain the same. Burning my g04 @ 8x results in crap.

My media starts with H4 and has this MID:

Hmm…I just looked at that disk closely and I see physical blemishes. I’m thinking that these disks are crap even though Ridata is considered A-/B+ :confused:

You are scanning those discs with a DVD-ROM drive. The only results that can be trusted is with a LiteOn DVD writer.

I’ve tested the difference a while back on Ritek R02 media. The LiteOn writer gave me good results (PI never really got above 25) while the JLMS DVD-ROM gave awful results (PI over 1200) on the same discs.

This doesn’t make certain your discs are or, but considering the graph Nero CD/DVD speed gave you I’d say that nothing is wrong…

I would agree, but…

Nero CD-Speed (3.0) now supports PI/PO errors as well. It says the Liteon-166S dvd-rom (what I have) is supported. When doing the scan, it did about the first 2% then errored on the disk (same disk as scanned above). So ya, I really dont know now.

Not strictly true even on a Liteon DVD-ROM a good disc looks good and a bad disc still looks shite.

Its the PO errors that seems miles out time after time, although 7 million PI errors does look kind of dodgy :bigsmile:

Hmmm I’m not that experienced with it, but as I mentioned, I’ve seen totally different results when scanning with a writer and a ROM. The drives I used were a 811S writer and a 165S ROM…

Go4 media is vary variable in quality
Datasafe RItek G04 are the only ritek media
that I have never had a bad tub of.
