Bad Kprobe scans on Ritek G04

Hi!

I have run some tests on KProbe. I tested some DVD-R on my LDW-811s (firmware HS0P).

The result for Ritek G04 does not look good. It is a high quality G04 by PrimeOn in a jewel case. For all my recordings, I use Nero 6303.

This one is a printable Verbatim DVD-R (made in India, probably by Moser Baer). The result is much better, but I have also seen better scans in the media forum:

I have also recorded some cheap orange “A-Grade” G04s which look like low quality discs. The result is worse than the PrimeOn G04s. I will attach an image soon.

The same cheap G04s burn on a friend’s Toshiba 5112 DVD- burner pretty well. When I scan them in my drive, PI average is about 30 - while PI average on my burner is about 90. My discs also cause problems on my standalone player - while the same discs recorded on the Toshiba 5112 work perfectly.

I know that some LiteOn drives do not work properly with DVD-. But some users have no problems at all and MUCH better Kprobe scans with their LiteOn drives.

My drive was manufactured in November 2003. Do you think that DVD- burning quality is better on newer drives which have been manufactured later, for example 851s? I do not want a recorder from a different brand since only LiteOn offers bitsetting.

There is nothign wrong with those scans. The errors are well within acceptable range.

You should have better luck with set top compatibility if you use HS0E. No that firmware version does not support bit setting, but it’s not like you can bit set with -R media anyway.
Once you use up all your -R media you can switch to +R if you would like and upgrade the firmware to a newer version at that point.

cheap “A-grade” G04s, orange top. These discs have average pi of 30 when they are recorded by the Toshiba 5112. One strange thing: When I burn these discs @2x, PI error rate is over 1000! This has already been stated in the media forum and I can fully confirm it that G04s should NOT be burned 2x.

Interesting. Although your scans are much better, I do not think that this is due to my drive. I ordered a testpack of G04s which have the original Ritek label. When I get it, I’ll post my results. I hope they are as perfect as yours

Btw, I can confirm that the older firmware version HS0E (similar to FS0F) gives slightly better results than HS0P (similar to FS0J). About 10 PI average less.

#9

As I’ve already said. There is nothing wrong with your original scans.

#10

i cant figure out how to read those scans. ive scanned a couple dds that i know have big errors and it all looks the same to me. it says that errors are supposed to be in black or something but i didnt notice anything like that. is there another. page with more info on this?

#11

Yes.
Read this.

FS0F: PI MAX=21 PI=96542 AVERAGE=15.451 PO MAX=6 PO=531 AVERAGE=0.013
FS0J: PI MAX=51 PI=265085 AVERAGE=5.617 PO MAX=4 PO=218 AVERAGE=0.031

Which is the best one?

I have tested all firmwares since FS02.
When burning DVD-Rs, FS0F gives me best results.
See my scans here.

My 50 oere* for FS0F

For overall compatibility; FS0J…

note: 50 oere is swedish currency (coin), like “my 2 cent”

Regarding the error rates they are both great. No problems with either.

Sssethi, that was a “stupid” answer…

You have to choose one.

#16

No I don’t.
BTW, I thought you said there are no stupid answers/questions!?! :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason I mentioned it is because I think he is missing the point that those scan results are totally fine and is worried about something he shouln’t be

#17

I’m not worried. I know that they result are very good. I only want to know which it is the best one.

(Sorry for my bad bad bad etc… english  )

Does anyone here have any guesses as to why my Mad Dog version of the Toshiba SD-R5112 is burning Ritek G05 media at only 1x using Nero 6.3.1.15?

#19

upgrade to the latest NERO BURN. i believe the latest version is 6.3.1.20

#20

I just tried that. It doesn’t look like it worked. The disc I’m burning now is at 3% done @ 2min 20secs. That’s well under 4x speed.

Any other suggestions for my rouge SD-R5112?
