I'm starting to think that maybe I got a bad drive. It's supposed to be an NEC2500A, but I've had all kinds of weird problems with it.
Okay, so I've flashed the FW about a couple dozen times. Big deal.
Seriously, after some help from Grimes (thanks man!) I have managed to get it to rip and burn DVDs just fine... but now when I pop them in to be played, the drive doesn't want to work at all- just sits there and kinda clicks, pops, but doesn't really play anything. Grrrr.
Anyone have any tips for tests to see if I have a bum drive? I got it from New Egg and for once actually bought the extended warranty, so the last thing I expect is any guff from them if I have to return the dumb thing for an exchange.
Obviously I'll be flashing the FW back to the original version prior to sending it back in...
One thing- it's gotten particularly cranky as far as viewing (burned) DVDs since I installed a LiteOn DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. THAT drive seems to read all kinds of discs, even the burned ones, with no problems.
Does Intervideo WinDVD have known issues with two DVD drives on the same machine? They're set up properly (one is master, other slave, etc) and as far as I can tell there's no good reason for this behavior from the NEC.
Thanks in advance,
