Backed up DVD play on PC and not Stand alone DVD players

^^ I just downloaded an older version of DVDFab Gold (3.1.8.0) and tried to split the same DVD that was used for DVDFab Gold 4.0.1.0. and now everything went flawless: this has to mean that there are some software problems. I hope that this will be solved in the near future, but for now I will use the older version.

These are the burnlogs of the diferent versions DVDFab Gold:

1: version 4.0.1.0. (doesn’t play on standalone DVD player):

the disc are obviously getting burned okay, there are no errors during burn and they play in computer. so we can rule out the vso drivers. updates after 3.1.8.0 have a new pathplayer technology. and they have been working on the way the dvd structure is copied. looks like they have been working on this.

  • New: Rewritten DVD structure cleaning module.
    a. When copying a range of chapters, the unselected chapters are removed, in “No menus” mode.
    b. All unreferenced cells are removed in “No menus” mode.
    c. When preserving menus, the unselected titles will not be played. In previous versions, the unselected titles will be converted to empty title and will be played.
  • New: Added option “Change DVD playback order” in “Full Disc” and “Customize” mode. You can choose “Jump to first menu when disc inserted” or “Jump to main title when disc inserted”.

so by booktyping the disc to dvd rom (with newer than 3.1.8.0 versions) the standalones read the disc different as the disc are DVD-Rom not dvd+r. i am not really up on the facts behind the booktyping but here is proof that it does make a difference.

as to why 3.1.8.0 will produce an output structure that your standalones will play but 4.0.1.0 will not? seems to still be some structure issues and various dvd players.

lets try something. rip to hard drive as video_ts folder. burn with imgburn and do not booktype +r to dvd-rom. do you have any other burning programs, that will burn the video_ts folder? will these play in standalone?

Where did you find an older copy of the software? I am having problems with the latest version, and would like to compare it to older software that I used to backup a disc before a trip. I don’t have 3.1.8 loaded anymore, but that is what I used. When I looked for it, everything pointed me to 4.0.1…

Can you share the link?

Thanks!

Good luck!

Myself I would look for post from the author (Fengtao) about the version you want instead of going to other web sites because you don’t know what you will D/L with the program as there is a lot of spyware out there :D:D:D

Here is the link for 3.1.8.0 http://club.cdfreaks.com/f116/dvdfab-3-1-8-0-out-227127/ :clap::clap:

thats a good idea jimbo.

however the new version theads is just an update log with a link to dvdfab.com download page. the page only keeps the latest version and current beta(if any).

there is a member here that keeps every version, but dont know if he wants it known. im sure he will read this and if so inclined will let others know. i havent kept every version but i do have a few of the last platinum versions back to 3.1.8.0, oh and i do have gold 3210.( dont know why i downloaded it but i have it).
It’s a phenomena we have all witnessed.
Archived dozens of DVD’s over several months using the same media (even from the same spindle) - No Problems.
Upgrade software - and immediately have problems. None of the archived DVD’s will play in any standalone player - but they will play in the computers.

There was obviously a change in the software that affected us. This is not a “phenomena”, but a programming issue…

btw, I am also using a Sony Dual Layer DVD writer.
