B7P9 Media Code list?

#1

Now that I have my Philips 1640 @ BenQ 1620, is there a place where I can find a list of accepted media codes?

I’ve seen the list here but it’s a little out of date.

And an advanced search didn’t reveal what I had hoped for

Many thanks

Legs2sag

PS I’ve written my first batch of discs. This drive is FAST

I am still working on the +R media codes. The -R list should already be ok.

Just the ticket! But of course, it was the +R details I was interested in

But to make a small contribution I can tell you that CMC MAG.E01 appears to work with no problem. Rated 8x, writes as 8x.

ala42 > You interested in making a tool for the BenQ1620?

#5

I started last night :). I can handle the compressed files and checksums now, the -R tables are not so different from the mediatek stuff I know, the +R ‘tables’, if you can call them tables at all, were too nasty for the first night…

#6

Kewls  You are so kind ! I’m sure your work will be very much appreciated here. If you need a tester i’ll do what i can.

#7

Really look forward to seeing your results with +R.

As an aside, got a friend (we built computers at same time) who says his standalone failed with +R media burnt with Dru-510. I don’t know what media he used. I have a TDK ricohjpnr01 burnt with the Dru-510 bitset as DVD+R I’m going to try on his player today to see if maybe it was a media issue, and then a ridata of same media code burnt with the benq 1620 (just installed) from the TDK version and bitset as DVD-ROM. Should be interesting to see if it was a media issue or a bitsetting issue. Both discs test extremely good burns.

#8

ala42,

MXL RG02 media is rated at 4x.

It is also supported by the BenQ 1620 at 4x.

#9

ala42…Great Work on the list!!!

My question is how do you know what to buy for this BENQ 1620 without knowing the code. You can only find out the code by putting a DVD in to test it. But what brands should consumers actually be looking for in the stores?

Most people don’t know what these codes mean but will just look for rated brands like Fuji that are made in Japan now those are TY.

Is there a list somewhere that tells the rated brands?

Thanks

test123,
Check here for Brand name vs. media code.

So no MKM-A02 or PHILIPS-041, two of the most frequent 4x DVD+RW codes

#12

I have burned DVD+RW MKM A02 at 4x so I would assume its supported.

#13

Great. That is what OMax had and I got 30 of them. Work great in my Mad Dog (nec 3500) and was surprised they did not show in the DVD+RW list.

#14

Thanks for the info. In which firmware is it supported at 4x ?

#15

I did a manual search in the firmwares for these codes. At least they do not occur in cleartext in B7P9/S9, B8S9, B3KC.

#16

There is scrambling, according to CK.

Edit: just got your e-mail…

#17

I burned them with the B7P9 firmware ala42.

#18

OK, just installed my IO Magic 1620 and it is still at G7C9. I can confirm that MKMA02 will burn at 4X. Now I think I can try windwflash and B7P9.cvt if it will let me. Everyone says that is all I need to do!

#19

Confirmed in B7P9 and B7S9, and probably supported at 4x in all other available firmware.

Nice work

Are you just reading the media and speeds or could it be possible to do speed changes?
