Avi to svcd - jerky playback

I have successfully converted a few AVIs to SVCD with DVD2SVCD + TMPGENC without any issues.

I have now got hold of a 25fps widescreen DIVX AVI which I am having problems with. I am generating a PAL SVCD so there should not be any frame rate adjustment. Basically the final SVCD plays with a very jerky motion as if most of the time it is skipping 1 or 2 frames for every frame it displays. It stays in sync with the audio but is very difficult to watch.

I have played the original AVI on the PC and this is fine. When I play the SVCD on the PC it is jerky so I don’t think this is an issue with my DVD player.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Can you run GSPOT and report the properties of the Video & Audio streams of the original AVI.

Converting a 25fps AVI to 25fps SVCD should not produce jerky results. Over the years I have converted “many” of them without any problems.

Here are the details

Video 4CC: xvid
Runtime: 1:06:15 (99,369 frames)
x:y: 640x272 (2.35:1)
Bitrate: 1355kB/s
FPS: 25.000
Qf: 0.3111bits/pixel

Audio: 0x0055(MP3) ID’d as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Bitrate: 116 kb/s
Fs: 48000 Hz

Gspot says I have 4 compatible video codecs
–> XviD MPEG-4 Codec
DivX Decoder Filter
–> XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder
Divx Decoder Filter

and 2 compatible audio codecs
–> Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec
–> MPEG Layer-3 Decoder

Hope this helps
