Hi all, this is my first post here so bear with me a little!
I have a LiteOn 5025 DVD/ HDD recorder.
The issue I have is that the machine is supposed to play AVI files, however I have a 700Mb AVI I wish to play but cannot. The file was downloaded as the original disk (the 2nd disk of season 3 of Desperate Housewives) has become badly scratched, something to do with my wife letting our nearly 2 year old play with it
Anyway, I burnt the AVI file as a Data DVD with NERO 6 and put it in the machine. When the machine eventually reads the disk is shows the files in the contents menu but it comes up with an unsupported file format message.
Now I'm a little new to all this file conversion stuff, but I thought (and reading the specs I know it does!) it plays AVI files. I assume there a various settings (video and audio bitrates..etc) that can be set at the time of creation. How can I check those againt the file, and where can I find the exact specs my machine will play?
I know I can convert the AVI file to VOB and create a standard DVD from it (found links to various software for that) but I am now curious as to why I cannot play AVI's directly!
All/ any help appreciated!
EDIT: this was using Datawrite Titanium 16x -R disks (burnt at 8x in Nero to reduce potential errors). These are the disks I pretty much always use these days for DVD back ups so I am confident it is not a media issue
