Avi File Too Big

Hi everyone.I have an AVI movie file that is 1GB.
Could anyone advise the preferred way of burning to a CD.
Do I need to split file(best software) to burn on 2 CD’s or can I shrink somehow without losing quality.

Thanks.
Darren.

Any reason not to burn to dvd?

In any case, you can split the avi into two sections using a free avi editing tool called VirtualDub. Here is a guide for that Then burn to two cds.

You could reencode it with Vdub and reduce the size down to 700mb by decreasing the bitrate, but your quality would suffer. You could also convert it to mpeg4 and use a codec that has better quality at low bitrates, like H264. If you are interested in that, look up a free tool called MeGui. You can find a lot of information about that program over at doom9.org forums.

Thanks Kerry. The only reason not to burn to DVD is the time factor involved.Successfully used Virtualdub onto 2 cd’s.

Thanks.
Darren.
