Checking the other thread and taking into account this one, I must say Avast might have hard times.

Hey Doug , I have Avast on my laptop with Windows 7 64 bit .
I haven’t had any problems with downloads or installing them.
Updates either.

I don’t have any version of FireFox installed though.
I’ve been using Opera Next AKA Beta since the problem with IE some months back.
So the difference might be FF.

FF with Avast could be the 8.1 problem too.

I’ve often found that all my programs get slowed to a crawl when I insall anti-virus software. For me at least this isn’t a one-time issue with one program. Rather, I’ve been banging my head against the wall for years.

I’ve just switched from Avast to 360 Total Security because Avast was taking too much system resources and slowing things up.
It was a really good change.

Hi,

recently (last2 weeks) on many dell machines (laptops and PC) we have similar problem. We are using Eset. Machines are hanging 2,3 times a day. Removing Eset solves hanging problem but machines are vulnerable…

We have downloaded latest Eset upgrade. Machines have all Microsoftcritical updates. We are not going to remove Eset totally.

Any idea?

Use a different A/V that doesn’t hog your system resources.
