Availability Of -R DL Blank Media

I am finding DVD +R DL blank media EVERYWHERE but DVD -R DL blank media takes some searching. What is up with that? Will DVD - R DL blank media be going the way of Beta video tape cassettes (e.g., you can find them, but it REALLY takes some looking)?

Where are some good, relaiable sources for good quality DVD-R DL blank discs?

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated!

Why do you need -R DL?

If you going to go for DVD-Rom setting only DVD+R DL media can do that. If you bought a DVD-R DL only burner the only person getting burned was you. I would return that drive and get one that does both -/+ DL media. But as the previous posted asked why???

Stick with the Verbatim brand -R DL media. Though I too see no reason to buy these over the Verbatim +R DL disks.

The reason I was asking about -R dual layer recording media is the fact I purchased a Pioneer 550 HS ‘stand alone’ unit.

I thought the 550 HS only recorded in -R DL format. If it also records in +R DL format, that may answer my original question…

I am looking for a recorder that also has hard drive capability and something I can situate with my TV/home theater.

If there is a different/better DVD dual layer/double layer stand alone unit I am all ears… I would welcome any helpful suggestions.

I DO NOT want to use a PC based solution - too many reasons to go into here - suffice to say I don’t want to go that direction.

Thanks in advance for any help!

But where I live I have yet to see any -R DL media that exist at walmart or bestbuy.
