Update- after several power cycles, finally got the unit to scan for TV channells successfully. These are what one would get over the air. It still would freeze when asked to do auto channel for cable. So, not sure if something changed with the cable company or what. I did not have this unit on a cable box, it worked on most channels without the box. So, I got around the problem by moving the cable box to the dvd recorder and puting the tv connection directly to the cable. The TV now works on most channels and the DVD burner can see all cable channels. This gets me to where I needed to be. Don't really care now that the auto channel no longer works, don't need it now. I will be ordering an HDTV cable box for the HD tv so I will be able to get everything and still record. By the way many folks find they can't use +RW disc and record TV. When a commercial hits a commercial recording stops and a copyright protection err msg hits. You can use JVC -RW in VR mode and you will then be able to record TV which was what I bought the thing for anyway. Pain in the arse since those disc are not readily available. Cost about $20 for 5 of them from various internet sources. This does work for me now.
This is a closed issue as far as I am concerned. Thanks and hope this helps others a little.
