Is an optical disc holding 1000tb a viable option? The risk of data loss would potentially be catastrphic. Some of the risk could be mitigated with a RW version that works similarly to a HDD’s firmware. Could a RW version compete with HDD?
IMO, there are too many issues to sort out before this could be a viable product.

You could have two copies and store then at different locations.
Reading and writing times might be a distinct problem …
