AudioCDs protected before 2001?

My first post in the Audio forum :),

I’m quite sure that AudioCDs which are produced before 2001 are not copy protected. As I read some articles about this in the past and never got a protected AudioCD produced before 2001 at my home. So to be sure I’m asking you if my knowledge of this is correct or not?

I think that your statement is correct. I am not sure if it was the first, but definitely one of the first copy protected Audio CDs that appeared on the market was the european release of Natalie Imbruglia - White Lilies Island, released on November 5, 2001 (so, late 2001).
