Audio line-in to pc

hi,

i play with making soundtracks for short films

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcTDVRaJdGk

if you want to record something line-in to your pc - ultimately to burn on a disc - say from an external device, what is the least ‘lossy’ way of doing this, please?

for example, are some sound cards better at this than others, or are the various ‘break out boxes’ designed to improve on incoming audio signals to the pc?

thanks

Ric

Extra soundcards are better without doubt, but for the start even audiocards-on-a-chip (eg. on the mobo) are good enough.

my card appears to be SoundMax on a Dell D-3000: would there be a suggested upgrade audio card, please?

thanks

R

ps - i get no email notification of replies, at the moment
