Ata 150

ATA 150

Please can you help me I am buying an Abit NF7-ver 2 motherboard which comes with an ATA converter for the IBM IDE drive that I have which is ATA 100 will i get any speed advantage buy connecting it to the ATA or should I just connect it to the IDE

I assume you are referring to SATA. No, you will gain nothing by connecting the HD to the SATA. You would have to buy a converter to make the connection, and some peopl eare reporting data corruption with the converters. What you would gain is an extra IDE port.
Now if you want to get a new WD Raptor HD for the SATA, that’s another story!

actually, there’s something to be gained from using a parallel > serial adapter, which is lower cpu usage.
