ASUS DRW1604P writing speed problem

I use win xp64 tried both nero 6 and 7 but max writing speed is always 4x when i look up in the drive data in nero

anyone has the same problem? or have a solution for it?

Hi and welcome to the forum

I don’t know if can be related with your problem, but have you checked if DMA is enabled?

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

first of all thx for the immediate answer but dma is already enabled :’(

You’re welcome

What IDE drivers do you have installed? Often installing standard microsoft ones solve the problem. But I don’t know if this is true also for xp64

i have a nf4 mb so i use nf drivers
ill try to roll back the drivers to microsoft ones when i get home

the problem is resolved by reinstalling the drivers but it still cant write more than 4x to memorex 16x dvd-r, but it does write @12x to memorex 8x blank dvds

Try to update also firmware in the burner

i did that too but it didnt help :’(

And the media code is what? Perhaps the drive does not have support for it. Use DVDInfoPro, and post the media ID. http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

Not recommended with this burner. The ones from FUJI have worked for me well.
Memorex? No go.

New setup or did this just pop up?
If it is a new setup, please do all the steps in this forum.

Some are
BIOS update
MOBO drivers update
Cable check
Master/slave check
Software and hardware FW update
Crossflash to a Pio
Try a different media and adjust burn speeds

thx a lot for the replies

different media can be burned at higher speeds, i ll buy another brand after these ones get depleted

someone gave me a pack of memorex memorex dvd+r 16x

i cant go over 4x with these too

seems like 16x memorex are not good for this writer

FW should fix that eventually

Not Yet.Brand new 111D and it burns RITEKF1(Memorex) like crap even at 4x.Since I have two 100 pack spindles, the PIO will have to be returned.

The point is that you could have bought better media, not that c*ap. :stuck_out_tongue:

And why the heck have you hijacked another thread which has NOTHING to do with your drive??
A 1604 from ASUS is no 111 nor a 111D!!!

I wonder why this came out wrong…?!

Ooopsie,I did a search in the Pioneer-Asus forum for “RITEKF1” and came buy this thread.I guess anything not TY is considered crap; well so be it.They are listed here ( http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm )as 2nd tier media with 80-95% sucess rate.I guess they aren’t good enogh for media snobs. I got 200 of these discs for $20 so couldn’t pass up that deal :stuck_out_tongue: .My BenQ burns them.Even my old NEC 2550A flashed to Dee’s 2A5C firmware burns these discs just fine.So anyone doing a search wondering why RITEKF1 won’t burn with PIO/Asus burners will possibly see this response and have a solutition. It’s even listed in the PIO supported media list to burn at 16x but the scans at 4x are horrible.Maybe the new PIO 112D that’s coming out soon will do better with 2nd tier media in General.

Tedtalker,

burning is surely not the problem.

But you may scan them for quality and see “how good” they really are.
