Asus DRW-24B5ST

Questions and answers about this DVD writer.

My first question is about the quality of this drive. Is it good or bad?
And another question is if I took the bulk drive (not found retail one) is there any way to obtain the software bundled with it: Nero Essentials 10, Power2Go 7, E-Green,E-Hammer (The bulk pack does not contain the software cd)

The second question: there’s almost never a way to get the software from the software CD without getting it with the drive. E-Green & E-Hammer are surprisingly available from at least one Asus site, though for me it was listed under the DRW-24B1ST: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=DRW-24B1ST&os=17

The first question: the quality is unknown. It is based on the LiteOn iHASx24 C drives. http://club.myce.com/f44/liteon-ihas-124-224-324-424-524-624-dh24ac-326091/

…So it wouldn’t be bad, really. There are just very few standout DVDRW drives these days. Usually folks get a LiteOn and are more than satisfied, though.

Thank you for your fast response.

Which will be the best write speed for maximum compatibility with dvd player, and for best longevity of DVD (verbatim 16x mcc-004 media). I usually wrote DVDs at 4x but this writer allow only 6x minimum speed. I wrote some DVDs at 6x and 8x and found no big differences in burn quality, but I don’t know how reliable are Asus scans. Also does it matter ZCLV (8x) and CLV(6x) (I am not sure if these are OK) ?

The write speed you need depends on your own results. Many people burn at 8x or 12x with no problems, others faster. You do not need to limit yourself to 6x; this frequently produces a result similar to 8x or 12x.

ZCLV/CLV/CAV/P-CAV does not matter, if the drive is good.

I have this model also…
can anyone help me with this model bit setting?
because some how I can’t find any software or setting in latest NERO, ImgBurn, or other software

Asus’ firmware doesn’t have the bitsetting parameters for +R and +RW by default, ony +R9. Unfortunately, you are SOL.

From what I see it automaticaly does bitsetting R+ to ROM

Is this drive crossflashable to iHASx24 C? I don’t have one myself, but I wanted to know if doing so would enable FHT advanced option in ImgBurn for Liteon.

I’m not certain, but it’s likely that you’d be able to crossflash. It’s also likely that you’d still be able to change HyperTuning settings with the stock Asus firmware. (It has been like that with older drives).

Thanks so much. Research has brought me to this site on several occassions. Very informative info.

Sorry for bumping my thread. I didn’t find an edit option. Are there tools available for crossflashing the ASUS to LO?

Though the tools required may be easy to get, there is no easily found public guide for these newer drives, but it is possible: http://club.myce.com/f44/liteon-ihas-124-224-324-424-524-624-dh24ac-326091/

If your query here goes unnoticed for a few days, you might be able to get assistance by asking in that thread.

From looking in that thread it does seem like it is possible to crossflash with the LiteOn firmware. Just need to check that you can definitely bitset +R and +RW

there’s no way to get newer version of that softwares?

I don’t know of any way to get a newer version if Internet searches fail to provide results.

LiteOn’s Smart Erase tool MAY support the Asus for the use of E-Hammer (since they are likely the exact same technology and the Asus firmware is likely very similar to LiteOn’s stock firmware), but I do not know if LiteOn has an equivalent of the E-Green tool.

Has anyone tried to crossflash their drive yet?

does anyone know if this drive does quality scans my search has not found an answer

Judging by this post, it is capable of scanning with Opti Drive Control.
