I just replaced my old and dead Sony DRU-880S with an Asus DRW-24B1ST.
This is another Lite-on clone from what I can investigate.
In Canada, Asus offers the 24F1ST and 24B1ST, the 24F1ST is supposed to be a Samsung re-badge, it is also $8 cheaper than the 24B1ST. For the fun of it, I bought the more expensive 24B1ST knowing well that the Samsung drive is going to be locked in every way.
I can't seems to create a test disc with Opti Drive Control as it fails every time on DVD+R, so I am unable to produce any scans yet.
I have not and don't want to break the warranty seal to find out what the chipset is yet. I can see it has a firmware from 2014/10/01 and it only has 512KB buffer.
I am able to enable/disable Overburn, Hypertune, SmartBurn and region with LtnFlash over USB connection. With SATA on AHCI, I am unable to even read the EEPROM.

I might have to re-rip the firmware if it is garbage.
