I have an external Asus DRW-1604P-D connected by USB to my home computer and from about 2 months now, I can’t burn anything on it. It starts but to the middle of the process there’s an error and I get this log

The strange thing is that I tried to burn something on my laptop connecting the burner by IEEE 1394 (Firewire) and I was able to burn a DVD…
I can’t change the firmware with the asus official FW because it give’s an error like this:

And if try to do it again without turning the burner Off is goes like this:

Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this?

TIA

Hi & welcome, gosma25

You should absolutely update your Nero with the latest version from their website. Early versions of Nero7 were very buggy. Also, disable Multisession burning in Nero and uninstall virtual drive software for testing. You already have the latest firmware 1.18 on your drive, so there should be no need to run the update. If you must, try in Windows Safe Mode. Have you tried burning with Verbatim discs yet?

#3

Cressida, thanks for the help, but none of that worked :frowning: .

I have now Nero 7.5.9.0, without multisession and no Virtual Drive Software.
Not even the Safe Mode did the trick…

I’m trying to burn with RiVision (the blue ones) but not even Sony’s CDs worked…

Any other suggestion?

Thanks again for all the help!

#4

Disable Multisession and change the external enclosure, because it doesn’t seem to work with the Pio burner properly.

Also, change the media to TY or Verbatim.
Burn using Imgburn v2.

#5

Hi gosma25, no immediate other suggestions, other than uninstalling Nero completely and then do a fresh install of the latest version (or try burning with the freeware program ImgBurn, as suggested by chef). Your desktop does have USB 2.0, correct? Can you flash the firmware via FireWire from the laptop?

#6

Kind of a noob question, but what is the external enclosure? :o :o

#7

That is the “housing” where your drive is into, to be an external drive/device.

You may can find out what chipset the enclosure is using and search for an firmware update - it could help in some cases, eg. Oxford.
Maybe Everest can reveal that info for you.

Thanks for the explanation!

After a lot os try and error, I did what I’ve should have made on the begining. I tried with another burning software. I didn’t tried with ImgBurn because I didn’t had any image on the PC, but yesterday I installed NTI CD & DVD-Maker 7 and it’s working 100%!

Thanks for all the help!

#9

OK, thats good. Imgburn is not for images only anymore.
