Haven’t checked that area before - thanks for noticing that!
I wonder, what if to flash this dump in BH16NS40 and then make a dump from the drive - will this garbage appear again in the dump?
We’ll since I had some spare time, I gave it a go, and crossflashed my BH16NS40 with the BW-16D1HT firmware, and then did a RAW dump using Flasher. I get no similar garbage in that particular area, although the other rubbish data in some of the other areas is quite different compared to your dump: http://www72.zippyshare.com/v/67316798/file.html (Note to readers: this is a non-flashable RAW firmware dump, if you want a flashable firmware use the one from post #69)
The crossflash was successful though and as far as I can tell everything seems to work just fine.
I successfully burned a DVD+R and a BD-R disc to test it. The drive automatically bitsets DVD+R to DVD-ROM.
For some reason ODC refused to scan the DVD+R disc on my PX-LB950SA drive, saying that the drive doesn’t support scanning such media, which seems to be a bug, which is why I had to use Nero CD-DVD Speed instead.
The DVD+R disc is a Memorex Printable 8x DVD+R (25pk spindle) with MID: CMC MAG E01 and was burned at 8x (max speed allowed for this media). I also did a TRT for this disc at 16.1x using the BW-16D1HT as the test drive (16.1x is the max reading speed available in ODC for this media).
The BD-R disc is a Verbatim Printable 6x BD-R (25 pack spindle) with MID: CMCMAG BA05-000 which was burned at 6x (max speed allowed for this media is 12x).
The scans are below:
