i just built my first computer and I have the DRW-2014L1T

Every time I burn a DVD+RW it will only burn at 2x not the advertised 8x. I dont know if this is a hardware or software problem.

Let me know of any ideas you all have.

@ pupuplader,

The write speed of the DRW-2014L1T Drive for “Supported” DVD+RW Media is 8X, 6X, 4X, 2.4X. To obtain the specified write speed of “Supported” DVD+RW Media you need to have the latest most current up to date available Firmware installed.

Have you ensured that you have the latest most current up to date available Firmware (version 1.02) installed in your DRW-2014L1T Drive? ->

Are you certain that the particular DVD+RW Media you are attempting to use is “Supported” by the current version 1.02 Firmware?

As Forum Member chef request what is the Media MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) (Example: TYG02) of your particular DVD+RW Media. To obtain the Media of your DVD+RW Media suggest using a utility software program similar to DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com).

I see what you mean on the media write speed, didtnt even think about this. What I am using is 4x

MID: INFODISCA10

I do have Firmware 1.02 installed

Burner 8x
Media 4x
I get 2x

@ pupuplader,

As asked in posting #3 are you certain that your INFODISCA10 DVD+RW Media that are attempting to use is “Supported” by the current version 1.02 Firmware?

If version 1.02 Firmware does not support your particular INFODISCA10 DVD+RW Media your DRW-2014L1T DVD Burner will fall back to the default 2.4x speed when burning your INFODISCA10 DVD+RW Media.

If you desire faster burning speed other that the default 2.4x speed suggest stop using off the wall cheap quality Media and obtain known proven high quality error free Media that consistently provides quality error free results such as Taiyo Yuden and/or Verbatim Media.

There memorex DVD+RW, which I would agree are not the best.

However, I was at Circuit city and they had mis-priced the pack of 20 for only $15. So instead of paying the $39 that they actually cost I was able to get them for $15.

Sucky media I agree but for $15 not to bad, just irritating that my drive defaults to 2.4x

@ pupuplader,

Instead of purchasing suspect problematic Memorex DVD+RW Media from Circuit City for .75 cents a piece (20 pieces for 15 bucks = .75 cents a piece) suggest purchasing known proven high quality top of the line Verbatim DVD+RW Media from Rima.Com (http://www.rima.com) for less money.

Rima.Com (http://www.rima.com) has 30 pack Verbatim DVD+RW Media for 22 bucks (.73 cents a piece). Rima.Com (http://www.rima.com) also has known proven high quality top of the line Taiyo Yuden Media at an excellent price.
