I am a long time PC user, Windows Embedded developer (ie hard core PC user) and I used to hate Apple dearly. I still don't like Macs but last year I bought an iPad on total impulse and I think it is the most brilliant CE / computer product ever created by far. Ever. It has replaced my PC at home, I only use my PC for downloads and syncing my iPad. I do all my web browsing, emailing, youtubing, Skyping etc.. etc.. on my iPad from the comfort of my couch, dining table, bed or whatever. Yes, I drank the kool-aid and it is awesome koo-laid !
People should stop knocking it for what it cannot do, its what it can do that makes it such a great product. I used to criticize and slam the whole locked-in Apple ecosystem but having lived it, its no big deal. Good apps are cheap or free and my iPad can do so many amazing things that I just don't care anymore.
Retina display is unrealistic on 10" screen, at least this year. People really expected a 2048x1536 resolution on a tablet this year ?
Yes the dual core processors will improve performance, if you know anything about multi-core / multi-threaded programming & processing its obvious. They also increased graphics performance up to 9x on the new iPad. The graphics performance was already amazing on the 1st gen.
Sean you can buy a USB+SD adapter to import all your photos to the iPad from a camera or SD card but the implementation is bit 1/2 assed: you can't copy them back to a USB drive and you can't organize / re-categorize your pics once they're on the iPad, which annoys me. But it works.
If you can get an old Windows / PC fart like me to buy and sing praises about an Apple product which is intended to change the way people use computers, well this isn't good for the classic / desktop PC industry at all
