I'm looking at a machine that is running WinXP and has an AOpen 52x24x52 IDE CDRW drive.
When a blank disc is in the drive the entire system stalls. System usage remains at 0%, but explorer doesn't respond (it doesn't hang either). As soon as you release the disc from the drive the system resumes.
Even having a blank disc in during boot-up will increase the booting time from ~15 seconds to about 5 minutes.
Does anyone have a clue about this? I have google-bashed a lot, but have found nothing.
The other problem is that my sister's cat has peed on the keyboard and the space button keeps getting stuck. Suggestions on a postcard please.
