I've never had a problem with my TYG01, TYG02 or TYG03 in any standalone player. I do have occasional problems with TY02 & TY03 though, even booktyped. Tested on approximately 30ish of various brands, pannies, nec's, cheap generic chinese garbage.
The only thing that the DVD-R wouldn't play on was some cheap garbage which my brother picked up from ALDI. And then that had trouble playing "fresh out the wrapping" pressed DVD's too, so I don't think it counts
And don't be fooled by the DVD-R / DVD+R is superior (DVD+R wins due to the better technology) because they've both been around so long that every dodgy manufacturer in belgium, china, taiwan , malaysia, hong kong and many other places, can dodgy something up to look like a DVD disc is now in on the action for both media types.
Don't believe me? Check out Ebay
I once bought 100 DVD+R & 50 DVD-R discs on ebay as a joke ... wow! Best $25 (inc P&H) I ever spent In the world of ferrari's (8x+), I found some lada's Wouldn't burn on ANY drive faster than 2x. My NEC wouldn't start burning on 3/4 of them, one of my litey 812's wouldn't even detect them & my benq burnt about 30% before spitting them out. The last Litey812 burnt them at 2x. Supported at 4x, so long I didn't mind having only 3/4 of a disc And then the PI/PIF exceeded 3000/200 consistently across the disc. They all worked fine on standalone players though .. if you didn't mind watching pixellated square blocks, instead of a decent picture.
@chef-> I've never seen IOMega optical media before either ... should be an interesting experience.
