they show as ritekR03??? i thought those were 4X i have a box CB of them now labled 4X… hmm is that fake?

Yes, revision 001 RITEKR03 is 4x media; but if the recommended tweaks have been applied to your firmware, then they will show up as 8x. The good news is that the rev 001 media seems to burn better at 8x, then some of the rev 002 media. It needs to be switched to the YudenT02 strategy to achieve this, which the recommended tweaks will do for you.

IIRC, both revisions of R03 are technically 8x-rated media. Rev. 01 has shown up in both 4x packages and 8x packages. Likewise with rev. 02. Ritek is simply selling 8x media under 4x labels (TY has done the same, too, with some T02 sold under 4x labels in Japan).

ok so let me get this stright… i bought a pack of ritekR03 labled 4x the code is exactly the same as the ones i found on that page labled 8X so if i were using stock firmware in my burner how could these burn at 8X… are you saying that the 4X ritekR03 i bought would burn at 8X with a stock drive? just seems stupid but i guess i get it…

funny thing is that the ones i have show up as 4X with stock F/W so how can the ones i posted show as 8X with same media code? sorry for the noob questions but i like to learn as much as i can about things as i play with them

Sorry, it was my mistake. I’m so used to seeing it set to 4x in CGxx firmware, which by the way, will show it as 4x media.

As code65536 says, the rev 001 and 002 are 8x. They are just sold as 4x and 8x branded media. The 4x branded media may be from older moulds and be less likely to burn at 8x.

ok… well my version of the ritekR03 are labled 4X and i have tweeked to Ty @ 8X and burn great… i started this thread because i was wondering if the ones branded 8X would burn at 12X or even 16X with the proper tweeks? from the sounds of this it dont look like it… they are pretty cheap if so…

Oh goodness no. Count your blessings if your RITEKR03 burns well at 8x. I wouldn’t try a R03 at 12x or 16x no matter what the drive is, not even on a BenQ. It’s Ritek media. 'nuff said.

Besides, 12x would save you less than one minute compared to 8x because the 8x on the LiteOn 3S series is rather aggressive, so it’s not worth the trouble anyway.

Good description of the 3S at 8x!

At 1633S, 8x on +R starts at about 7x, P-CAV ramps to 8x, and stays there - if they could spin it a little faster at the start, it’d be 8x CLV all the way. so a burn at 8x is almost a straight half the time of 4x, while even 16x will not halve the time again.
