Anydvd ripping question

I have the latest updated version of anydvd. The first time I used the "Rip to Hard disc" feature (which works great by the way) I was prompted asking if I wanted to burn the copied files to dvd. Now, it doesn't do that anymore, I have to use Recode or Shrink which goes through the whole analyze/compress/burn procedure. Am I doing something wrong here?

Nope any dvd will rip as you know but it won't burn a dvd for you. You must use clonedvd or shrink, nero ect.... to burn the files.

Thanks....come to think of it, I may have been using DVD Fab Decrypter.....I have to many options and I am slightly confused!

Which would also do the same like anydvd but not burning.

How AnyDVD performs ripping the DVD disc to the hard drive? I don't see that function. Would you care to show us the ripping icon or button on AnyDVD? As far as I am concern if the program being designed to work in background how at the same time be active to rip the disc also.

You have a fox icon on the bottom right of the screen, right click on it and then you'll see the rip to the hard drive.

- New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs
while copying them to your harddisk. It can be started from the menu of
the AnyDVD fox icon. It can be started as a stand alone application from
the start menu as well, so it can be used even if AnyDVD is not registered
and the trial period has expired. It is identical to FixVTS (http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/) but instead
of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your harddisk directly
from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied.
Some DVDs which have severe mastering defects e.g.,
"Menace II Society" R1 (US) can now be copied with all DVD copy tools
(elby CloneDVD, DVDShrink, etc.) Many thanks to the author of FixVTS!
- Fix: Hang after update check with some system configurations
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

Thsnks Dr. Who for clarification I see it now I admit that I competely overlooked that since version 3.0.15 was the last versio I ever used AnyDVd and I have been using mostly DVDShrink with Nero. Thanks again.

You can also drag and drop the VIDEO_TS directory to your harddisk, since the very first AnyDVD version. :doh:

Is draging and dropping the VIDEO_TS directory to the hard drive better then using the AnyDVD Ripper? I only ask becuase I see you mention and promote drag and drop all the time. I want to start using my hard drive and I want to go with what works best (drag and drop or AnyDVD Ripper). Thanks in advance.

Using the ripper will also perform the same funcion as the FixVTS program. I don't know exactly what it does, but it is used to fix certain problems on some DVDs.

You can search if you need to know exactly what it does.

No, I don't. I just correct people saying "AnyDVD could not rip to hardisk before the AnyDVD ripper was introduced" which is just showing me, that those people never understood how AnyDVD works. They don't deserve such a nice piece of Software.
To answer your question: The best thing to rip to harddisk is (surprise!) CloneDVD, as it corrects wrong timetables (there are a lot of DVDs which have difficulties playing in ZoomPlayer or MediaPlayer because of defective Time Tables. I have some of them, and I am really pissed about Sony, because they are too stupid to author the DVDs correctly). If this doesn't work because of some error, use the AnyDVD Ripper. I would love if CloneDVD could copy the few titles which fail without using the ripper first, or if the ripper would correct the time tables.... whatever.

dragging and dropping and using the anydvd ripper are not the same. using the anydvd ripper performs the functions of "FixVTS" on the files being copied. This can repair defective dvds and discs with intentional structural errors that may not function properly when processed in older programs like Shrink or neglected programs like Recode.

the ripper is like dragging and dropping in the sense that you are copying the full disc with no compression, but it does a little something extra to "fix" the files as they are being copied...

i think what was being said was that anydvd itself did not rip to hard disk which is essentially a true statement, but as we both know, copying and pasting was the quick "solution" to that.

now anydvd rips from within the program...that's the distinction that was being made.

unless of course you're all arguing semantics, in which case I'll step out of this.
