AnyDvd and Dual Layer Discs, some question's and recommendations for you OLLI

hey olli, the god himself, can anydvd do dual layer disks on-the-fly, cos it takes about 2-3 hours on my pentium 3 450mhz to transcode them (thats for a dvd about 7gb ish). ifso does it do all the reading first, then start writing or does it read each bit then burnt it, if so it would burn at a very slow speed like 0.1

do you make a good living from your elby and cough cough other company ? you should have a great wage, you bring copying to the masses with a fairly simple interface. a clony xxl thing for clone cd would be good though, like blindread does on newer versions, it shows you what options you need to copy the disc, that would be great.

the compress-ometer would be great, so you could get the best quality available to fit on a dvd-r.

a simpler interface would be good for begginers, so they could have simple options like copy entire disc, copy movie and other simple options, and the current interface under an advanced tab.

having preserve disc menus on by default would be good, i didnt see it once and was a bit annoyed when i didnt have menu’s on the dvd.

when you open clone dvd, it would be good to have a button to check the protection and capacity of the disc, i.e a message box to appear saying “css encrypted” “dual layer, disc will need to be transcoded” and “the region of the disc”, dvd decrypter has this, it says the region e.g 2 or 1,2,3,4 etc for region free discs like mine when i use the hacked 1.33 firmware for my pioneer 105.

also can you clarify what the checkboxes are in anydvd:

Region Code Enhancement - is this remove the region of the disc ?
Analog Protection System - is this remove css protection?
prohibited user operations - ?

been using clone cd for years, a GREAT program, keep up the good work !

1 last thing, what do you think about people who use cracks or keygen’s for you programs, if they are rich and are too tight to buy it do you hate them, what do you think about people who are poor and cant afford to buy your programs, do you mind that or not?

hee–I’d like to hear that, too.
I always thought of it as somewhat ironic how CCD was one of the most protected-against-cracking proggies out there (what with the sneaky ‘check for update’ thingy, and the laughably-named entries into the registry here and there – “messiah” [har! Puulesse!]. All that seemed kinda funny when one considered the purpose of the program to start with!
I understood it, mind you, but still found it ironic on some level, nonetheless…

So, are you more a Democrat now (free if you make less than 19,000.), or more a Republican (free only if you own a large corporation, and/or are a ‘-illionaire’–screw the peasantry…)?

I hardly think Olli is going to come on here and say it is okay for anyone (be they rich or poor) to copy his software, haha, that would be shooting himself in the foot. Use some logic

If you can afford a computer, a DVD burner, DVD media and internet connection you can afford to pay for the software that you use to run that hardware.

Put it in perspective and you will see that, at least where i live, the price for CloneDVD equals aprox 15 DVD-Rs.

If you can’t afford that perhaps you should be spending your money more wisely then on computer peripherials.

Paddy

i cant afford clone cd or any programs like that or even windows, im a poor student from a poor family, i have to save up for ages to get hardware.

and i think he would appreciate it if you didnt put words in his mouth.

@indieman0

your behaviour is a little unusual, please think carefully before posting.

what can i say other than i am an unusual person.

when im reading a protected disc, it still uses the temporary disk space for the dvd (3.44gb ish), is this supposed to have when i am on a pentium 3 450 ? is this program designed for a fast computer, so it would take like 15 mins to transcode and 15 mins to burn, so it would then do it on-the-fly ?

the setting on anydvd now (while its still reading) are on:3 off:0 empty:0.

hope you can reply olli, dont reply about the keygens and cracks part if you dont want to.

And when you are out of school and working you no doubt will expect to be paid occasionally for what you do–not work for free for everyone who says he is ‘poor’. Dude…!
We’re discussing copying dvd’s. If you even have a dvd/player–you ain’t ‘poor’. Poor is living in a cardboard box or a shack. Hell, if you even have electric service, you ain’t poor!
Olli and most other developers give a free-trial, so folks can compare and make a decision what to ‘save up for’.
Maybe a bunch of us can PayPal you a buck so you can buy it if you really like it–how’s that? Or maybe Olli could accept donations into a fund for Scholorships/Grants for deserving pirates? I’ll send a buck…

I am no god. Not at all.

> can anydvd do dual layer disks on-the-fly<

Sure, but I believe I don’t understand the question…

> having preserve disc menus on by default would be good, i didnt see it once and was a bit annoyed when i didnt have menu’s on the dvd. <

It is on by default, if you select “CloneDVD”.

Nice idea.

> also can you clarify what the checkboxes are in anydvd:

I would say so, yes…

> Analog Protection System - is this remove css protection? <
No, Macrovision. AnyDVD always removes CSS if it is enabled.

> prohibited user operations - ?<
Forced subtitles, no skipping over FBI warnings and many other…
You don’t seem to watch many original DVDs if you are not annoyed by this.

Speaking of ‘annoying warnings’, Olli–thanks for not playing CYA like 321. That junk/tagging is even worse than the FBI-garbage the MPAA saddles us with…

thanks for replying olli, hope you can try and implement some of my idea’s so that everyone can enjoy an improved set of programs to help us bypass stupid laws an allow us to backup our cd’s like we should be able to !

i would love to see a region and protection and capacity detection for clone dvd, i wouldnt need dvd decryptor anymore, just use clone dvd for all copying.

as for the on the fly business i thought that the program would read for a few milliseconds, then write this data to the disc, then read a bit more an so on, like it is with on the fly with clone cd.

i tried copying “the office series 1”, its css and macrovision protected, copied fine, but noticed that it created the files necessary to burn the disc on the harddrive, so it took about 4.4gb ish of discspace, not bothered about that, just thought that it didnt need any by the press release. keep up the good work, see that you have updated anydvd again, nice work !

i do remember not allowing me to skip the fbi warning, nice feature ! i dont watch as many dvd’s as most, i down xvid movies, assuming you know their filetype.

another recommendation would be for a dvd creating program, i think the makedisc project is for cd’s ? i may be wrong, i dont mean like a nero, to put say an iso file onto a dvd, i mean a program that can say convert an xvid or divx file into a dvd and burn it, that would be very handy, another feature would be to let me create a dvd using the video files of other dvd’s i.e .vob, ifo etc, cos i have 2 dvd’s of my favourite band recorded on a dvd using a standalone dvd recorder for my friend’s tv, i want to put both of the dvd’s onto 1.

are you still carrying on with the makedisc project? cos the release date has been removed from the page now, not sure if its either been delayed or brought forward.

keep on fighting the evil of the world, keep on being robin hood, taking from the rich and giving to the poor !

hope you can reply saying whether you may add some of the ideas i have given to your current programs or future programs, much appreciated.
