Can anyone tell me if AnyDVD can remove a discs region code so that a region 2 disc can be copied and the copy then play on a region 1 player?

#6

If you use anydvd it will make all your dvd’s region free.

#7

I copied the PAL disc but neither of my DVD players (A Sony and a Panasonic) recognize the disc. I get error messages stating wrong region.

#8

That’s not a region problem, that’s a PAL format problem. Not all NTSC players can play PAL…really cheap ones generally can, but, I’ve never seen a Sony that can. (For the record, I own a Sony and hate the damn thing…to the point where I’ve started using my xbox 360 for DVD playback lately). In any case, you’ll probably need to convert the PAL disc to NTSC for playback on those players. (I don’t know about the Panasonic…never ran into one before, but, it seems likely it doesn’t support PAL either given the message you’re getting). Hope this helps.

#9

you are talking about the format (pal, ntsc) not region. you either have to get a dvd player that plays both formats or some other software like dvdsanta? (not to sure).

#10

If you used anydvd did you make sure the software region code box was selected? Make sure all the boxes are ticked and make sure your default region was selected correctly ex: if you live in America set it to 1, U.K set to 2

#11

Won’t matter in his case…it’s not a region problem.

#12

sorry for the double posts…it plays fine in my PC but not on my home players. thanx for all your help.

#13

Right…that’s because the PC software can generally handle PAL format whereas the stand alone players mostly can’t. Some of the cheap chinese imports can do PAL and NTSC with no problems. I wish I had one cause I have some PAL stuff that I’m going to have to convert that plays fine on my PC using PowerDVD but won’t play in my Sony worth a damn. I’ve read that DVD Santa is probably good at converting PAL to NTSC but I’ve not yet had a chance to check it out. It might be something you want to look into.

#14

thanx, i will!

DVDSanta.com

#16

be warned that it might make your movie be out of sync.

#17

Is that DVDsanta you are talking about, or is this a fault on the new version of AnyDVD you are talking about?

In particular, I feel the following is an excellent addition:

“Structural protection removal has been significantly enhanced,
protected cells are now completely removed from the beginning of
the protected titles (ArccoS, PuppetLock & MacroVision RipGuard protections).
This greatly improves compatibility with 3rd party tools like DVDShrink,
Nero Recode and others. Using additional tools like VobBlanker should no
longer be required.”

But now I’m wondering why Anydvd ripper is required (unless dragging and dropping using Windows Exploerer doesn’t remove protected cells).

sorry that was dvdsanta i was tlking about and not anydvd.
