Ok, I have a few questions for the VHS kings...
I was planning on ripping our old family home videos and to me, these things are priceless. I wanted to make sure I rip these at the absolute highest quality possible...uncompressed, all that good stuff...I don't care if it takes up 500TB, lol.
My questions are...Does a VHS tape store data in 1's and 0's? I found this picture online of the audio and video information stored on the magnetized tape but I have no idea what I'm looking at...
If so, how would you go about ripping the data 1:1? I keep seeing 100 different programs to convert VHS to digital video, but I don't have any clue as to what I should be looking for when it comes to making sure I get a perfect rip.
I also see people using a VCR hooked up to their PC with an S-Video cable and a video capture card...are there any better ways to rip VHS? It just seems like you might lose some sort of quality that way (not syncing up perfectly or something)
So how would you guys suggest I go about doing this, has anyone done this before?
