I noticed there was a new firmware released at the first of this month and I was wondering if anyone had done any tests to see what may have improved.

#2

Just got the drive today upgraded the firmware and this is my first burn.

Memorex Lightscribe burned with Nero Express 7.7.5.1 at 16X.
First scan with 1612BL
Second scan and TRT with Lite On SHW-160P6S PS0B

#3

If you have any DL media could you do a test burn?

#4

I only have some cheap Windata DL discs, but i will try one.
Here is another burn.

Memorex Ricohjpnr03 at 16X with Nero Express.

Well, I got one of these and man am I disappointed.

This is my first burn and unfortunately the last TY -R I had. Horrible quality and won’t read correctly on my LG.

The first Maxell I tried. It seems this drive likes +R better althought the quality still ain’t great.

The second Maxell is a little better.

I don’t think this drive is a very good scanner but it’s all I have.

Ist DL burn Verbatim made in Singapore, burned at 4X with latest version of Nero Express.

There is no “ASUS DRW-1612BL User review & discussion” thread, so I will post here (even though this thread is out-dated).

That’s Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 16x TYG03 burned @ 16x
Checked @ maximum speed & 4x speed (on the same device)

Quality score 99 and you are disappointed?
I think that it is a good scanner. If you read post #4 you will realize that Asus has very similar results as the Lite-On.
