Any hope for Ritek G03 support? =(

Herrie seems to be doing a good job at improving support for a number of 4x -R’s… That’s great! I have Ritek G04s around and I was really annoyed at the poor performance the 2500A gives on them with stock firmware. =/

…but I have a LOT of G03’s. G03’s are cheap and generally reliable discs on Pioneer recorders (which are what I used previous to picking up the NEC – I got the NEC based on cdfreaks’ good review on how well it performed on crappy Princos and what-not) and so I have quite a few of them that I’d like to use. The NEC 2500A though destroys them. =( Based on sheer physical appearance the burned discs have much higher contrast than the good Pioneer burns so my best guess is the 2500A is running the power way too high.

Anyway is there any hope for a fixed firmware for G03s? I may wind up buying a Pioneer A07 just so I can burn these properly. =/

Please post their mediacode so I can have a look

These discs work really well on many burners. =( I really wish NEC would make them work right. =P

(These discs were released as 1X discs I believe but they perform great at 2X on plenty of burners with good PI/PO performance. They perform decently even on my old crappy Pioneer A03 which creates considerable PO errors even on Taiyo Yudens.)

A quick note, I’ve been using the Dangerous Brothers 1.06 firmware for these burns. I haven’t tried your firmware yet, Herrie, but I hadn’t read anything about a G03 implementation in it so I assumed it was the same…

(Anyway this post is also so I can bump it to the top again and hope to start some discussion. ^^; Anyone? XD )

One more bump. =( I can’t believe nobody here is using G03s? =/ They’re the best grade of “cheapo” discs you can find, at least on Pioneers. =/

Herrie did you look for info on the media code I put up?

At the current time burning 2x media at 4x isn’t possible :frowning:

Ridata 1x

2 of 2 coasters… from differents batchs from differents sellers.

I don’t want to burn 2x media at 4x! I want to burn 2x media AT 2X! =P Basically the 2500a totally destroys my G03s at 2X whereas Pioneer burners burn them just fine. That’s the problem I’m having. I just want to be able to burn the discs at 2X! Heck I’m not a stickler for speed so if there was some way to make the 2500a go at 1X (there’s not I don’t think) then I’d be happy.

Anyway that’s my prob. =P It makes coasters of G03s at 2X speed. =P

same here

Im having a simular problem with CMC -r 2x media with the 2500A just burns junk (ie unrecoverable read errors)…if i use the pioneer i get a passable copy…though these disks are really junk and still get unrecoverable errors every so often even with my pioneer 106D.

and the slowest speed the nec will let me burn is 2x…though i get better results with my pioneer at 1x.

Unless I’m very much mistaken, the ND-2500A doesn’t have any 1x burn strategies for DVD-R. Indeed, I don’t think there’s a 1x strategy for DVD+R either.

David

I have burned about 20 G03 discs that were sold as Fuji made in Taiwan. They burned fine, but I have had playback problems with them in my standalone player and my laptop. So, I would recommend avoiding them also. I am still pissed that I paid almost $2 per disc for crap media.

Wow I get G03s for $0.70 each x.x

Anyway burning on a Pioneer I haven’t had any compatibility problems with them. The burns are solid (except on my A03 where they are weak but still acceptable, but my A03 does crummy burns on everything) and they have good compatibility with any drive I’ve tested them on and on all my video players.

Burning on my 2500A they function rather poorly and are unreadable on tons of drives.

I Have the same problem!

I have a batch (quite old, they were aquired 8 months ago) of Traxdata G02 and G03, and they all end up garbage after beeing recorded by the Nec2500 drive.

Fernando Rocha.

Look at that post! That’s a damn good burn! Madness x.x The media code is different from mine though.

I have the same problem. My pioneer burned the ritek g03’s like a champ everytime - until it died. I heard good things about the 2500a and went with it, but these discs do not work that well. Is there any firmware to burn these at 1x? Every program i try defaults to 2x no matter what setting i choose.

Also, what discs should i buy next time around (for under a $1 each)?

Most of the current DVD writer firmwares will default to burning all 1X or 2X media at a minimum of 2X. (1X is not possible)

I replied to your question for media advice HERE.

NEC ND-2500A has no 1x write strategy for DVD-R or DVD+R. It will write 1x discs at 2x - which may or may not prove successful.

i also have some datasafe G03 disks. they burn ok, however, they dont read back properly past 3gb.

it would be great if herrie could modify the firmware such that we can get a reliable burns at 2x with these G03 media.

Here’s a scan of one of my G03s burned at 2x in my 2500a with Herrie’s b7 firmware. Yes it was scanned in a 166S so I couldn’t control read speed, but the read speed that it selected was 8x CAV based on performance during the read (which started around 4x or so moving up). It’s not a complete burn so the outer 1/4 or so of the disc was not read.
