Getting ready to buy a dvd burner and after reading thread "Which dvd burner to buy" I've came to the conclusion that I need to get a + burner and most are fairly the same except for speed which isn't a concern . But is there any that I should avoid as I will probably get a fairly inexpensive one. Any comments ?
Try to avoid the ones made in China. That's all I can tell you.
Stay with a brand name: Sony, Pioneer,Lite-On,and you should be okay....

Why don't you mention Plextor???
because Plextor uses a rebadged burner?? or am i wrong? doens't Lite-On use Sony drives?? anyways i have the sony DRU-500AX, and i haven't had problems with it. it's relatively on the expensive side but the price seems to be dropping. i hear NEC burners are good.

The PX-504A is an NEC according to the CDFreak's review, Lite On uses Mediatek chipsets and are not Sony drives.
What I want to avoid is the problem I have with by CD burner. It's inabilty to write longer than the orange book or whatever it is called specified. Are there any DVD burners that stick strictly to the rules and prevent you squeezing that bit of extra on to the DVDs?If so, I will avoid them.I was thinking of buying the Plextor PX-708A dual writer.Does it have this or any other shortcomings?
So Plextors upcoming (or released) new dvdr burner is an NEC 1300 or such - damn, thought Plextor manufactured their own drives.

Exactly why I didn't ,and I don't know any one (yet) that has a Plextor DVD burner.I think in fairness one should only recommend things that you've had a personal experience with...like a girl, for instance.....

AFAIK, The new Plextor (708A) is one of their very own burners...
The 504A however, is nothing but a rebadged NEC1100a. Nothing wrong with the drive though, but it is a rebadge..
When I said: why don't you mention Plextor, I was refurring to their new 708A burner.
It's the furst that can burn DVD+R at 8x.
But Lite-On, SONY, Plextor, Pioneer and NEC are all good drives.
Maybe you can search the -NET for some reviews.

Lite-On's LDW-400D is based on a Sony model, but Lite-On's other drives are manufactured by Lite-On.
Thanks for the input. I just ordered a LWD401S, To add to my LTR48125WLTR52327SJLMS166SMight as well stick with good thing.
Namoh,I replied that way because even though the burners' out, there are no realplaces to obtain 8x media, and I need to see what if any problems that may arise with the burner, before i pass judgement....
