Not to really defend them but is this much different from when we bought stuff on LP or cassette then upgraded to CD? We either had to covert/rip them to CD or buy it again in the new format. Don’t get me wrong, I think DRM’s suck big time but there are ways around them, tunebyte, JHymn, etc. All Apple did was come up with a simple, great business model that the public really resonded to. I think when you have about 75% of the MP3 player market and have sold over 1 billion songs then I don’t think the public really cares what would happen if they switch to a Sony or Creative player because odds are they will just buy another/bigger iPod instead.
