Hard disk makes a clicking soung repeatedly and writing stuck at 56percent.and after sometime i get this error.
i burnt another disk ,write about 200mb with 8x speed ,writing succeded but still hard disk make clicking sound repeatedly.i got a bsod
KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR 0X0000007A in verification.
whats the problem?

#2

i tried to burn another disk at 4x ,only nero running nothing else.burn goes to 100percent and i get bsod 0x000000F4 “a process or thread exited or terminated” , during writing lead out.
i also gets clicking sound when a disc is being read in drive.this sound is peculier for this error.

#3

Why noone answering?
i am also getting bsod 0x0000007a
kernel inpage error saying about ataport.sys ,during copying file from dvd.
i.e i am getting bsod during read or write of disc.

#4

You have used CRAP MEDIA.

Grab some Verbatims and be happy.

Also replace the data cable (PATA?).

#5

If you are using -R media use Burning Mode SAO instead of DAO.

#6

Why do you think SAO would help?

The media is crappo and even SAO cannot overcome this.

#7

Chef, it’s just a suggestion!

#8

i still have the problem.i just got the replaced drive from service center.lg are so late in in resolving complaints.
i also have changed disc but problem is still present.
even i insert a blank disc ,hard disk starts making clicking sound.sometimes it gave me bsod kernel data inpage error 0x0000007a ataport.sys.
i was only reading dvd ,not burning but still pc freezes

runnning window7,500 gb sata,2gb ram,amd x4.

#9

Check the event viewer!

What other media have you used??

#10

i was using writex brand but i tried using sony.in event viewer i get like this"event id 55 The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume Window7."

and also by analysing crashdumpfile like this :

On Wed 20-Oct-10 6:01:32 PM your computer crashed
This was likely caused by the following module: ataport.sys
Bugcheck code: 0x7A (0xC04464F0, 0xC000000E, 0x498DF860, 0x88C9E9E8)
Error: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
Dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\102010-131181-01.dmp
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ataport.sys
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: ATAPI Driver Extension
The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect, possibly the culprit is in another driver on your system which cannot be identified at this time.

i used to run chkdsk and defragmentation frequently.

#11

i think i may have solved it.i ran check disk on all drive.i moved paging file to another drive.changed sata cable to another sata port.
removed case fan power cable and connected power cable of hard disk & writer to another power cable.now hard disk till now has.t make any clicking sound and i have burnt a disk that is also on previously used disk i.e. writex dvds.
btw you can give some suggestion here.is my problem was hard disk not getting power enough when writer is being used.do i upgrade my power unit?

#12

It’s always possible. What PSU is in the Computer??

#13

its a mercury PSU 400W that comes with mercury cabinet. My pc is only a year old after upgrade.

#14

Can you connect the drive to another port/controller or change the cable?

#15

I changed the cable and changed the port .i think problem is resolved after changing the power cable.
problem solved after changing power port,or changing psu.
thanx chef for answering my problems.
BTW how can i close this thread?
