Hence why I’d much prefer a “dumb” TV, but just try finding one these days.

Thank GenX and Millenials, that big Netflix button on the remote is just too appealing and too easy for them to use.
Hense the manufacturers are catering to their addiction.
Since the “Smart” features of these TVs has to be activated by the user, simply leave them un-activated.

Sounds like a feature - not a bug
Better buy a new TV than waiting for an unsafe patch.

Seriously:
Another common case of releasing untested patches to the public … just bravo… it’s a Sony!

The Sony Bravias have alot of other problems. Sony had to censor their forums due to alot of customers complaining that the apps in android won’t display 4k video streams natively, or otherwise! What good is android in a 4k tv it only goes to 1080p?!? That’s why I got a Samsung 4k 55" after 1/2dozen years suffering on a 19" 720p set.
Hence why I’d much prefer a “dumb” TV, but just try finding one these days.
Well not if you want to DLNA or connect to your NAS or Desktop to steam your home videos or downloaded videos so there are cost benefits you just have to manage them. That’s why I would get a Smart TV for steaming from my network not from the internet.
