Analogue signal down Digital cable lines

A while ago I read somewhere that the Digital Cable system still transmits an analogue signal. Obviously this will switch off when they move over to digital properly but for now it provides a very good TV reception. I decided to try it.
I used a maplin two way satellite splitter £9.99 Maplin code BM90x then an F plug to Coax £3. This particular splitter provides power pass through on one output so I sent this side to my Set top box. The other I plugged into my TV via my Liteon 5045.
Its great. The picture quality is much better than before (especially channel 5) You might wonder “why bother when Ive got cable?” well I can now record good quality programmes from channels 1 to 5 whilst watching Cable (and Vice versa)
