Please help me. I had starforce drivers installed and now i have removed them and also daemon tools (two utilities known to cause some problems) but am still getting the problem…heres my log

Im running xp home SP2
p4 3.0 ht northwood core
1024MB RAM
9800PRO

I have a SATA HDD which takes over the IDE 1 channel (its the way the mboard works) and a CDROM on slave and HDD on master of the second IDE channel…I must stress that it was working not too long ago.

Your log looks a little weird (maybe because it is nero 7 and I am use to nero 6, maybe because I’m far from an expert on nero logs, but
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
Is most often due to poor media or media that your drive doesn’t support well. Being that there or no other sense key errors, it points even more in that direction. The last two questions that I answered in the newbie forum minutes ago, also asked what media, but that is because it is so often the problem, and that error defanatlly points to the media.
What media are you using? The brand almost doesn’t matter as most brands use whatever they can buy cheap (they don’t make it themselves). Even the best companies that make media also use other companies media too keep up with market demand or whatever).
Identify your disks (burned or not, failed burn or not, any disk) with dvd identifier. post the manufacture id and the media type id and we can tell you about your media, and the likllyhood of it being the cause.

#3

Update crap Nero 7 first, then try with better media…

Probably SF has made your whole system unstable and acting weird when burning at all - you cannot just remove SF even if you think that…

#4

Agree with chef. You’ll need to do a registry clean after removing the SF and Daemon software. Try a free registry cleaner like:
http://www.dirfile.com/freeware/registry-cleaner.htm

#5

When it comes to free registry cleaners than my neighbors Jouni Vuorio’s cleanreg is still the best.

But be careful with this powerful tool. Make sure you know what you want to delete before taking any actions.

#6

i have completely removed both of daemon tools and starforce. There is a proper way to clean it off. After using the official uninstall program, the registry editor with ace tools (its good) and removal of the CD writer driver followed by the reinstallation of the IDE controller of channel 2 (while it does hang the system after it uninstalls cus the hgard disk is on it). After the system reboot it returns it to normal…this information is from boycott starforce on cleaning the system fully from starforce.

Daemon tools has been uninstalled followed by the registry cleaner. New registry entries have been blocked by bit defender from now on with these programs. Ive also deleted the SDPT.sys (?on file name) that daemon tools leaves behind.

So it cant be that.

Media is tescos own (its bad media I know, I looked up the real manufacturers name…they are unheard of, If forget thje name now, it begins with a P), however my other computer writes, albeit glitchy, to it fine (The tracks keep skipping frequently.).

Im a little stumped on this. Tahikns for any help anyway

You could try Burrrn (www.burrrn.net) to see if it’s a Nero issue or not. This app is free and converts mp3 & many other formats to Audio CD format on the fly, along with CD-TEXT as is a useful backup when all else fails.

And Tesco’s media has been mentioned here previously as the cause of burn failures. Verbatim Cd-R are good (Extra Protection) to excellent (Pastels) & easily available either on-line or at Staples, PC World or Maplins.

thanks am buying a 100 spindle of verbaitum…<click>…now.

Will also look up infinity as they are cheaper but im not sure of quality.

Thanks will try this out when verbaitum arrives

Could the fact that my pc cannot identify manufacturer on some discs be an issue (some not all)

You cannot completely remove starforce and that crap.

But if you can burn again, be happy.

If it’s not identifying manufacturer it did not recognize the disc properly => no burn strategy to be picked => won’t burn.

I would have probably bought a 10 pack just to be sure first but if the Verbs don’t work either then it’s some other problem.

Personally I’d forget Infinity.

CD-R media is quite different to DVD media when it comes to write strategies. Basically I don’t believe it really applies. And the fact that it couldn’t fully identify the media is probably not an issue, just the fact that the media is crap.
