I have a multi-drive CD ripping unit with a robotic arm that loads and unloads discs.
It shipped with Pioneer drives (I can’t remember the model, sorry) that glitched out on more difficult-to-read discs at high speeds. We swapped the Pioneers out with Optiarc 7170A’s, and those give us no read problems.
However, the Optiarcs’ drive doors don’t seem to open at a consistent distance, which the robot arm doesn’t seem to like, as you could imagine.
I’ve heard someone offhandedly mention that I can adjust the drive door open distance by the drive’s firmware. If I could find a way to tweak this, I’d be thrilled.
I realize that manually editing firmware can be a tricky task, but is there some utility out there that makes it easier?
