I agree with 90312.
I could add some additional thoughts...maybe later when I'm not so tired.
Top quality media can be purchased for just about what most of the crap sells for...at least most of the time. Look for the sales...a good place to paruse is cdfreaks bargain basement thread.
You can buy verbatim in 100/pk spindles for about $21 when they're on sale...both in the brick & mortar stores like BB and online.
Taiyo Yuden is remarkably good stuff. My favorite SL media is YUDEN000 T02 which you can usually pick up for about $0.25-0.28/disc (100pk spindles)shipping included.
Last year, I picked up verbatim +R DL 50 pk spindles for about $52/spindle.
These are MKM 001 (MIS)...the best DL media, bar none...JMO
I like 'em better than the faster MKM 003's.
I bought 250 of 'em...
It's not just a question of how often you play the discs. You may find that the dye on the poorer quality discs will degrade quickly regardless...you don't have to play them at all.
Moreover, good quality media will limit burn errors overall, handle more compression better, provide a bit more physical space so that you can burn closer to the edge without the predisposition to burn errors that you'll see with inferior or marginal quality stuff. Good quality media will also be more universally compatible with standalone players as well as burners.
Add all this up with the fact that you probably won't spend any more $ and you get to keep all your hair...
